Magazine Articles
Magazine articles about living in Baker House
- Happy Anniversary, Baker House (Architecture Plus, July 1973): Probably one of the most thoughtful articles ever written about not just the architecture of the building, but about the interaction of the building and its residents. Written by Stanley Abercrombie (Senior Editor of Architecture Plus) on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Baker House. This article is definitely worth reading
- "Technodarlings" (Playboy, September 1983): What happens when an unsuspecting reporter for Playboy falls into the clutches of a group of Bakerites who are more than willing to tell him what he wants to hear? You wind up with an article entitled “Technodarlings”, which was in the September 1983 issue of Playboy…
- "Nerd U" (New England Monthly, October 1986): Another reporter for another magazine (New England Monthly) discovers that MIT is really intense, and its students are a little different…
- "Relationships Between Physical and Social Structure in Baker House" (Tech Engineering News, December 1971): An interesting – but somewhat dated (and inaccurate?) – look at the social structure of Baker House was done in 1970 by R. Philip Dowds as a term paper for 11.34 (Psychology of the Environment).
- Aalto's MIT Masterpiece (Metropolis Magazine, December 1, 2003): While the restoration of Baker House has some purists fuming the classic dorm has never looked better. Ted Smalley Bowen
- A Modern More or Less Humane in Architecture Week, by Joseph E. Pollack. Comparison of Simmons Hall and Baker House.
